A Contact Lens Exam

A contact lens exam is slightly different than a standard eye exam because rather than resting on your nose like glasses, contact lenses actually rest on the eyes. This means we have to take your eye shape and current health into account.

We’ll take a closer look at the cornea and/or sclera, where your contacts will rest, to be sure that they can properly support your lenses. We use some of the best technology available for our contact lens exams, and will identify anything in your eyes that we would need to address before fitting your contacts.

A Contact Lens Fitting

During a contact lens fitting, our expert opticians will take the time to find the right contact lens brand and style for you that provides both comfort and vision correction. If this means exploring specialty lenses, we’ll walk you through the advantages of all your options.

First-time contact lens wearers will also get an introductory lesson in wearing contacts and how to care for them at home. Keeping contacts clean is crucial to eye health, and we’ll help you protect your healthy vision for years to come.

Types of Contact Lenses

There are a number of different types of contact lenses, each of which fulfill various needs. We’ll help you find which ones are best for you. Here are some of the options we recommend to our patients:

Soft Lenses

The most common type of contact lens is the soft disposable lens. Available as single-vision or multifocal, these can come in daily, weekly, biweekly, or monthly varieties. We carry many types of soft lenses and will help you find what works best for you.

Daily, Weekly, and Extended Wear

Some people prefer to wear daily disposable contacts because they don’t want to wear contacts every single day, while others can use weekly or extended-use contacts for longer periods, storing them in a hydrating solution when not in use (usually overnight).

Toric Lenses and Astigmatism Treatment in Murray, KY

Toric Lenses for Astigmatism

Toric lenses are constructed a certain way, with either thickened zones or lens truncation, so that the lens stays in the same position on the eye and gives the same refraction every time. People with astigmatism need this so that the lens’ focus stays consistent with their irregularities in their corneas.

Specialty Lenses

Many specialty lenses are designed for people with cornea issues. Scleral lenses, for example, rest on the white sclera of your eye rather than the cornea to prevent irritation. Ortho-K lenses gently reshape the corneas while the wearer sleeps, allowing for clear vision the next day. Rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses are firm to the touch but allow for better oxygen flow and breathability to the cornea.
