Insurance Verification & Help
at Jarvis Vision Center
Insurance is a crucial part of how many of our patients pay for their eye care but understanding your coverage can get complicated fast. For instance, many insurance providers offer separate “medical” and “vision” coverage, each of which only covers certain parts of your eye care, depending on the reason for your visit.
That’s why our billing staff at Jarvis Vision Center makes it easy — we’ll do all the hard work so you don’t have to!

Vision Insurance
Vision insurance is most often designed to cover routine eye care and make eyewear affordable. Most vision plans offer allowances that cover some or all of the cost of your annual eye exam, eyeglasses, or contact lenses. While medical insurance may cover eyewear if it’s considered to be “medically necessary,” vision insurance offers a range of benefits for anyone who expects to have routine eye care costs throughout the year.

Medical Insurance
Medical insurance is generally focused on your medical eye health. Your plan may cover disease treatment and management for various eye conditions including dry eye, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes, and cataracts, and eye injury treatment such as emergency eye care.

Medicaid
Medicaid in Kentucky can provide for essential eye care needs that normally are covered by a combination of medical insurance and vision insurance. These may include vision exams, eyeglass fittings, eye disease diagnosis and management, and glasses every one to two years (depending on your age).

HSA and FSA
Many of our patients also use their Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to pay for their eye care and eyewear. These specialized accounts allow you to save up and pay for medical expenses tax-free. However, they come with certain restrictions that are important to understand — for instance, in many cases, FSA funds do not carry over year over year, and disappear if they go unspent.
