What Is Myopia?

Myopia is the elongation of the eye that leads to nearsightedness, or blurred distance vision. It is a progressive disease that can worsen over time. Often, children diagnosed with myopia start out with mild prescriptions that get stronger over time until they have stopped growing around age 18-20.

What can I do?

You can treat the symptoms of myopia with glasses and contact lenses, which help you or your child to see clearly throughout the day; however, these solutions do not slow the progression of the disease, the only relief the primary symptom of blurred vision. Thankfully, there are now ways to manage myopia and even slow its progression over time! These treatment programs work best on children in the early stages of myopia and can be used through adulthood to help reduce the risk for retinal detachment later in life.

Treatments

You or your children can find relief from myopia with Ortho-K technology using our program called Sleep Sight. This program provides a simple solution to myopia management and even reduces the need for glasses or contact lenses! You will be fitted with a specialized lens, worn at night while you’re asleep, that gently corrects the natural shape of the cornea to allow for clear vision all day long! These lenses are removed in the morning and most users find they don’t need their glasses at all after only a few weeks of use.

The best thing about Sleep Sight is that it does not require invasive laser surgeries and won’t permanently change the shape of your cornea, so if you chose to stop using it your vision will return to normal within a day or so.
